CeBit 2013 performance

Bio

Chris’ experience lies in the nerdy side of music production. Having produced electronic music since the age of 13, he has covered a wide range of musical styles as Synaecide with releases and features on a number of electronic labels such as IDMf and Enig’matik.

Since early 2011, Chris has been developing his own software, Kinectar, which turns the Kinect gaming sensor into a fully-fledged MIDI controller. He has shown the diversity in his custom-built system by using it to control the Melbourne Town Hall organ, 100-speaker diffusion system, live-looped electronic music performances around Australia; with notable performances at the Seattle Science Festival‘s hacker luminaries series (2012), Microsoft’s, TechEd (2012) and opening CeBit Hannover (2013) as Ethno Tekh.

His works have been featured around Australia in nation media (The Age & Today/Tonight), as well as global online institutions including The Verge, The Atlantic, TecmundoCreate Digital MusicEngadget and New Scientist, plus many more.

In August 2012 he formed Ethno Tekh together with visual artist and coder, Brad Hammond/XY01. With a core principal of real-time content, they now bring their specialisations together to create interactive audio/visual instruments for performances and installations.

Focusing on sonic projects based around interaction, immersion and motion; Chris’ passion lies in what can be expressed through our relationship with technology. His aim is to experiment with how sensors and data can be used to create meaningful representations of creative, interactive intent not yet explored.
